Electric Dragster Fox Just Slashed The European Record For ¼ Of A Mile Race

Electric cars are fast. We are not writing this only because of the Tesla Model S P90D or Formula E cars. We are saying this because of the massively powerful electrical dragsters that are becoming faster every day. It is only a matter of time before they reach the insanity status of the proper ethanol or nitrous powered dragsters. Today is a big day for electric dragsters in Europe – the Electric Fox made a ¼ of a mile record running the drag strip in 7.631 seconds. Ok, it is not as fast as this one, but, then again, it is electric.

The Electric Fox tips the scales at 1,598 pounds (725 kilograms) and uses an SFI2.5C-spec chassis. Power is provided by six powerful electric motors generating a combined output of 1,368 horsepower (1,020 kilowatts) and 1,595 pound-feet (2,160 newton-meters) of torque. This Latvian dragster is a mind boggling piece of engineering. However, the newest record is not its final goal. The creators want to slash the time under 7 seconds and accelerate the EV to a speed of 200 mph in a quarter of a mile race.
Apart from making a run on the Drag strip, the Electric Fox will venture to the US where the team will try to set yet another record, only this time at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb which is scheduled for next Sunday in Colorado Springs, United States.
Although the driver Maris Ozolins drove the car to an all new European record, he was only 0.357 seconds off the current world record. It is only a matter of time when electric dragsters will become faster than anything out there.
