Finally, we have the first proper comparison test between three of the world’s best hot hatchbacks of today. The awesome Audi RS3 Sportback goes against the Ford Focus RS and the Golf R. The R is certainly the underdog here due to the lower power output and a bit less sophisticated suspension compared with the two. On the other hand, the whole car world wanted to see how the Ford Focus RS would stack against the king of the hot hatches – the RS3.
As we have noted many times before, the Ford Focus RS is sort of a hot-hatchback made especially for gearheads. Everyone likes it and they really should as it was created with a lot of love.
The Audi is the heaviest, but the most powerful as well. The presenter of the AutoExpress, who tested the three, said that the Audi RS3 Sportback is not exactly precise and focused as the Focus or the Golf R.
As it turns out, the biggest problem with the Focus is the quality of the materials on the inside. Both the Golf R and the Audi RS3 Sportback have far superior interior compared with the Focus RS. Where both of them lose the battle is the sheer fun you can get from driving a car. The Focus RS with its Drift mode and all the insane torque of its 2,3 Ecoboost is simply astonishing. Ultimately, this comes down to what you prefer. The Golf R is restrained, the Focus RS is mad and the Audi RS3 is a technological showcase with luxury.
And yes, we have not said the most important stuff – the Golf R – 300 hp, the Focus RS – 350hp (more or less) and the Audi RS3 Sportback – 367hp.
