It may become much – much – harder to get away from the police. Watch the video and learn about the new grappler device perfect for physically disabling vehicles by grabbing their wheels. Up until this point, police had only a few options for stopping vehicles – tire deflating devices, PIT maneuver or extreme physical blockade. All of these techniques proved quite inefficient and rather dangerous as the police could not guarantee the safety of anyone involved or the people around.
The new device is far safer. Called the Police Grappler Bumper, it is disguised in a Y-shaped rig in front of the car and it can be deployed with a flip of a switch. In that case, the grappler will reveal its web structure. As the web is close to the ground, an officer can pull close to the vehicle he pursuits and entangle one of the rear wheels immediately locking it. In effect, the car will start to slow down. With the rope attached to the police vehicle, the driver can even help slow it down faster, but in a case of emergency, the rope can be detached with a flip of a switch.
The inventor of the device, Leonard Stock told Fox News: “The conclusion of one of the chases was an innocent motorist getting t-boned and I went to sleep that night just so aggravated that this was happening. And I woke up at 3:00 in the morning just suddenly and this was the first thought I had.”
As around 40 percent of police chases end with a crash, this device may prove to be very useful. Yet, the man who designed it has yet to sell one. We are sure some police enforcements do have an interest in a device like this. It could be an asset.
