Now that TV Show Fifth Gear from the UK is about to be sacked from TV, we are reminding ourselves just how cool car reviews had been back in the day when this small independent crew was going around in life. We bring you one of the best videos they have ever produced – a comparison test between the Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 Turbo S. This is four to five years old video but it definitely shows how the two of the world’s greatest supercar killers are stacking against one another.
Both have turbocharged six-cylinder engines, both have an all-wheel-drive system and both go around with a double clutch transmission. The similarities end there as the Nissan GT-R features a classic front engine layout, while the Porsche moves around with his engine way back. Also, it may seem that the Porsche 911 Turbo S is packed with a tiny bit more tech than the Nissan GT-R although both are a Mekka for newest technology.
Fifth gear compared the two on the track including their drag times, level of the grip in a proper two lap race. The results do not lie. The GT-R has a tiny bit better grip, but the Porsche is faster in a drag race and it won in the two-lap race. Yet, it won only by a tiny margin while the price differentiation between the two is a whole lot more than the tiny margin – it is more than 50 grand. Thankfully, new kids are on the block right now, but it seems that even today, with the 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S and the 2017 Nissan GT-R Nismo, the results would be much the same.
