MotorTrend created the World’s Greatest Drag Race a few years ago. The concept is simple – put a number of most amazing cars and let them reach the quarter of a mile mark in the least time possible. Some previous iterations were certainly impressive, but this year’s race gives us a chance to see some of the newcomers in a drag race against, well, everything.
MotorTrend lined up Acura NSX, Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Audi R8 V10 Plus, BMW M4 GTS, Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, Dodge Viper ACR, Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, Jaguar F-Type SVR, McLaren 570S, Mercedes-AMG GT S, Nissan GT-R, Porsche Carrera S and the 707 HP Charger Hellcat.
Of course, we have to have everything – from muscle cars to supercars and we have it here. However, while the Lamborghini Huracan (basically the same car as the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus) lost to the 570S in the UK, one in the US did not reach the shitstorm of speed the Audi R8 V10 Plus released upon it.
So, Audi is an absolute winner, but that is not surprising at all. What is surprising is that the latest Acura NSX did not have a chance to reach the top three. First, the Audi, second the McLaren, third the 2017 Nissan GT-R and the Acura NSX won the fourth place. A bit disappointing for the Acura. On the other hand, much more disappointing for the Dodge Viper was the fact that it could not win against the Porsche 911 Carrera S. This 420hp German Sports car pulled 11.5 seconds and won over the 650hp Dodge Viper by a few feet. This is the most amazing fact for sure.
Also, the last to cross the line is the Camaro SS 1LE, but even this muscle car pulled astonishing 12,4 seconds. Strange times we live in.
