Mazda is at the forefront of design and technological ingenuity at the Los Angeles Car Show when they featured the Mazda MX-0. Their concept car overshadowed other big creations like the Mercedes Biome and the Cadillac Aera. The aim was to build a futuristic 4 seater car that will just weigh under 1000 lbs or 454 kg.
Mazda is a top notch car manufacturer when it comes to lightweight sports car as they have made the most popular sports car of its kind-the MX-5 Miata. Mazda has a good understanding of how weight can affect a car’s performance because when they built the 1st generation of the MX-5 it only weighed 2,300 lbs!
The “0” in their concept car exemplifies its extreme lightness and their ideology was based on the MX-5. They envision that the MX-0 will be powered by high torque electric motors that will give staggering numbers when it comes to power to weight ratio.
They also see this concept car to have extreme components like glass being replaced by lighter and stronger materials. Its wishbones and coil over springs are replaced by spring arms using the same principles from ultra lightweight snowboards. This is truly an amazing feat for Mazda and let us hope that the world is ready for their ideas.
