This is probably the best thing about racing you will ever see. Organized in Sweden, the so-called Folk Racing or the Grassroots Swedish Racing Series shows one does not need a lot of money to enter possibly the most enjoyable and the most exciting racing series ever. This is all about keeping the cost down and keeping the fun up. Using old beaten up Volvos and Saabs with two wheel drive and with the roll cage in place, the Swedes tackle challenging dirt roads in an effort to be faster than all other. As RoadandTrack puts it, this thing is like a Global Rallycross, but much more fun and exciting.
Carfection created a video showing the ins and outs of the racing series originating for decades in Sweden. Guys can use all kinds of cars and the rules are rather simple – no intentional crashes or push outs from the track. Only pure, raw racing. What is interesting is the fact that the driver can only use cars powered by naturally aspirated engines which can be modified but only so much.
On the other hand, they even sell all the cars after the race for anyone to enjoy. And the cars are cheap at $750 or so. Anyone who buys it can enter the race. So, this is like Global Rallycross or like unchained WRC. A lot of fun, a lot of speed for cheap. It is possible.
