Goodyear went a step further while creating their newest tire and it is as futuristic as anyone could imagine (not conventional like these tough). This is a 360 degree all spheric tire which is not connected in any way whatsoever to the car. The logic behind this is the integration of the technology called magnetic levitation. This is a physical phenomenon used by superfast trains which actually hover above charged tracks and can achieve some really amazing speeds without ever touching the tracks. Of course, for such a system to work the train needs huge amounts of power, as the car with these tires would need as well.
However, if we are to solve the power storing problem, magnetic levitation should be feasible and the possibilities that the use of such smart tires would bring would be endless. In this case, Goodyear released a magnificent video demonstrating many advantages of the technology. More or less, this thing would solve problems with parking – the car would be able to slide into place without any classical tire repositioning like steering. By precisely managing every tire and its spin, safety would increase greatly. ESP systems would be far more advanced and would thus provide cars with traction never felt before. And last but not the least, the ride would be far more comfortable as the car would not have direct physical contact with tires. This would be an advancement like never before.
The idea is clearly awesome, but we are far from seeing this in practice. Magnetic levitation requires a whole lot of power and cars still cannot store enough.
