Honda did a lot to develop the new Acura NSX. The engineering team even started from scratch after the hybrid frenzy became apparent in the car world. Now, the car is definitely one of the most advanced hybrid sports cars on the market. However, in order to be considered a worthy competitor to the sports cars and supercars of today it certainly has to be as fast, or faster. And that is not an easy task.
You can witness here the amazing track shootout of the Acura NSX, the 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo, and the Audi R8 V10 Plus. All are awd cars, however, the Acura is a hybrid, the Audi is N/A powered mid-engined supercar and the Porsche is a turbocharged rear-engined monster. Obviously, the Acura NSX is the heaviest due to an intricate system of electric motors, batteries and an advanced torque vectoring suspension.
Tested at the short track in Britain, Steve Sutcliffe had a chance to put the cars through their paces on a hot lap of their test track. Some amazing results come from it all, but it seems that the weight of the Acura NSX definitely cripples the car in some sort. It simply could not match the lap times of the Audi R8 and the Porsche 911 Turbo (911 Turbo S is even faster).
However, despite massive weight disadvantage, the Acura NSX actually did pull out quite an impressive time. Unfortunately, it still cannot match the Germans in pure numbers. Better tires would definitely do some good to it, but then again, one would have to fit the same tires to all the cars out there.
Enjoy hot laps of some of the world’s most amazing cars.
