Do you know who Ryan Tuerck is? He is the guy who takes drifting very, very serious. So much so that he is well known for his shenanigans on the tracks of the US Formula Drift Series. Now, however, he is in the middle of building his next car. Yes, it is just a Toyota 86, but this one has a Ferrari engine in it. No, we are not joking, a Ferrari engine will be in this Toyota 86 and this is the first proper look at how that will come to be.
The engine chosen by the team is the one from the 458 Italia. A naturally aspirated V8 with 4,5 liter of capacity sits at the back in the middle of the Ferrari, but in this case, it had to be transferred to the front of the Toyota 86. This is, for sure, one of the craziest engine swaps in modern history. Really, we have not seen much Ferrari engine swaps altogether, but this one should give some insane results.
Ryan Tuerck is giving us a tour around the car and tells us what needs to be done in order for this to work. Just think how difficult it must be to put a rear-mid-engine in the front of a Toyota. The engine had to be turned the other way around which made it very hard for the engineers to come up with an intake system. Tuerck explains that an all new system had to be invented which made it impossible for wiper motors to stay in the car. Also, headers are new, the engine mounts also, and the entire fuel system had to be redesigned. And that is all before we come to the transmission and the drivetrain system. This is harder than chess and more challenging than almost any other swap you may imagine.
The team aims to finish the car by October time. Then, it should drift its way out of the garage with the sound of a Ferrari and the looks of a JDM car. This is a big one. And yes, the car will get a new name – the 4586 suits it perfectly.
