Ok, the Porsche 918 Spyder is seriously fast. It is one of the best supercars of all time, so having one racing any kind of other transportation on land makes some sense. However, when it is dialed up to race against a plane, we have to rethink is that possible in any conceivable way.
German motor magazine the Grip put the Porsche 918 Spyder in a race against the Red Bull racing plane Edge 540. OK, the Porsche is almost the best one you can have on the road, but the Edge is the thing Red Bull AirRace pilots use to make all kind of incredible aerobatics.
Grip host Matthias Malmedie was behind the wheel of the Porsche 918 while the air machine was piloted by Matthias Dolderer – a successful Red Bull Air Race pilot. The machine he is managing is half a million Euro worth aircraft weighing 1,550 lbs. It does not have an engine as powerful as in the Porsche, but it does go through air and is as slippery as it gets. Sure, the plane had to make a much wider turn at the turning point, but it did succeed to take in and out much more speed than the Porsche. Regardless, as pointless as this race maybe, it is obvious that the guys are having a whole lot of fun, are enjoying their machines and riding them to the extreme limits. Enjoy!
