As we saw yesterday, the Audi RS3 is a tough nut to crack. However, competition far more astonishing than the RS3 comes from an unusual place – France. Peugeot, a famous French car producer created an awesome concept car which actually works. It is called the 308R HYbrid and it is possibly the most amazing hot hatchback ever imagined. The massively powerful 1.6L turbocharged engine in it provides about 270hp while the rest of the power is provided by two electric motors with each developing 115hp. In total, the amazing Peugeot gets around with rather incredible 500hp thus becoming the most powerful hot hatch since ever. Even the upcoming Golf R420 (which may not happen after all) cannot come close to it.
Just how fast this machine is best shown in this short video showing it in a race against the Audi RS3. Bear in mind that the Audi RS3 can get to 62 mph in 4,5 seconds, yet, it could not hold a candle to the Peugeot 308R Hybrid. Both cars power all four wheels, yet, Peugeot’s rear axle is actually fed by a powerful electric motor giving it awesome torque in the very instance the gas pedal is pressed. The result is a hot hatch capable of reaching 60mph in less than 4 seconds. Tell that to supercars from ten years ago, they would be ashamed of themselves.
The same internal combustion engine used for the concept is actually a production engine we have already seen in the RCZ and in the new 308 GTi.
Unfortunately, we are not sure whether Peugeot will launch this magnificent hybrid to the market, but if they do, they will be the next heroes of the car industry.
