Hot hatches are hotter than ever. Think about it, the newest top-notch hatches are so close to 400hp mark it is almost incredible. This time, however, we are witnessing a race between two 300hp hot-hatches. One is from Germany – the Volkswagen Golf R and the other from Japan – the Honda Civic Type R. These are top notch hot hatches and the one from Japan is so fast it actually lapped the ‘Ring faster than any other hot hatch ever.
However, could it beat a Volkswagen in a simple drag race!? It has 10 hp more (at 310hp), so it should be capable, shouldn’t it?
Obviously, drag racing is not all about power. The Golf R is an all wheel drive car with a DSG transmission and a sort of launch control system. On the other hand, the flashy Honda Civic Type R has a manual, it only has a front wheel drive and the acceleration is crippled by the traction front tires can provide. Surely enough, it is a sickly fast car, but click play and see if it can stack up against the Golf R.
The times have changed drastically. Both cars once had naturally aspirated engines, but in the world of today, old N/A units simply can’t cut it. So the two-liter turbocharged units are as certain to get them going fast. How fast!? The Honda Civic Type R goes up to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds. On the other hand, the Golf R does it in mind shattering 4,7 seconds. Enjoy the Drag race.
