Ever since Volkswagen introduced that cool VW Bus back in the Sixties some wanted to make it even more special introducing it to far more powerful engines than it was ever designed to handle. As its original motor was an air cooled machine from the VW Bug, a mechanic soon realized that Porsche engines could fit back in there too. And the love between Porsche and the Volkswagen Bus T1 started. Here is one of the latest fruits of that love – a super powerful T1 bus capable of murdering supercars.
This build here is actually created as a Ring Taxi. That is as a car which will race around the Nurburgring with “tourists” aboard. While it looks like a T1 Bus, underneath it all is actually T3 architecture strengthened and adjusted so it can accept a 3.6-liter Porsche 993 engine with two turbochargers. This small engine develops fantastic 530hp and 558 lb-ft (757Nm) of torque making this build one of the most powerful ever. Thanks to the massively powerful engine, Porsche 993-sourced transmission and 996 GT3-sources suspension the bus is definitely worth admiring.
The custom body on top of the T3 architecture had to be widened by almost 10 inches. Then, the inside received four racing seats all with racing harnesses and roll bars to ensure safety for all passengers. This is a stunning vehicle and a representation of everything good about the Nurburgring. If you ever go there, please, take a spin in the VW T1 ‘Race-Taxi’. It will be unforgettable.
