Ok, ladies and gentlemen, please say hello to the best truck ever – it is lowered, it had its roof chopped, its engine rebuilt and tuned. Every single feature on it had to be touched and tweaked so it ends up being, possibly the most amazing piece of trucking culture of all time. Called the Scania R999, this truck comes from Sweden and it had quite an interesting path. It started off as a Scania T500. Since it was a laboratory test truck, Scania intended to use it for testing and they actually did for some time. Then, it was to be scrapped, but renowned Swedish Scania customizer Svempa Bergendahl did not want to miss out on the opportunity. He bought the truck in 2005 and set off to build one of the most amazing customs builds ever.
Red Pearl is its designation and we can see why. Apparently, $20.000 was the cost of the paint job and Svempa (with his team of course), invested as much as 3.000 working hours in making it happen. Attention to detail on this one is staggering. It has a see through floor, lowered suspension, lowered center of gravity, low weight setup and reworked engine. The engine is actually good for 1.000 hp. Thus the name R999. 16 liter V8 is so powerful, it can make this Scania do burnouts and Donuts which is not exactly something you can see everyday. Also, it will apparently hit 62 mph in 5 seconds flat. Faster than some Porsche Boxster cars.
“We created a machine that is so hot that when Scania’s President and CEO, Leif Östling and Hasse Johansson, head of research and development, saw it, they stood there slack-jawed,” the builder says.
