If you didn’t know, Porsche produced tractors way back in the Sixties (go figure!) and one of their most popular models was the Porsche Junior, a small, compact tractor capable of helping farmers with their daily tasks. The tractor business was so important for Porsche that at one point it made them enough money to sustain the entire company. Nowadays, of course, Porsche is far from producing tractors, but that didn’t stop the all time Porsche racing driver to test the Porsche Junior on the most demanding proving ground of them all – the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
Yes, with the AutoBild filming, the Porsche Junior lapped the ‘ring with the racing driver behind the wheel and this was one of the most amazing and most incredible drives on the track of all times. The Porsche-Diesel Junior is an old tractor powered by a 0,9 liter diesel engine developing 14 HP. It is a slow moving machine needing up to 17 seconds to accelerate to 15 mph. The one cylinder diesel engine is much better at farming tasks than at lapping the ‘ring, but it is quite astonishing to see it lap the most amazing proving ground in the world.
As for Walter Rohl, he is possibly the most successful rally driver of all times and his time with Porsche made him quite a celebrity in the car world. He knows his stuff around cars and boy he does it good.
