We have seen before what it would be like to import a Nissan GT-R R32 in the US. Jalopnik presenter Doug DeMuro showed us all the things in a few entertaining videos and now, he continues with making interesting videos by driving a Hummer H1. If you think that there cannot be anything too entertaining in driving a Hummer H1, think again. Doug DeMuro took it for a spin on the real race track among other race cars and here it is how he felt driving the ultimate US military truck in the one place this car probably never was before.
Large and heavy are two words that describe the Hummer the best way. Also, unreliable might be the third word, but we will just leave it at Large and Heavy. These aren’t actually the best characteristics for a racecar so the Hummer H1 definitely isn’t something you’d ever consider bringing to the track. In a six minute video you can actually see how fast (or slow) the Hummer can go. Top speed achieved by it was somewhere around 65 mph (in the same place where race cars can do 140 mph) and cornering wasn’t really something Hummer H1 excelled in. However, Doug pointed out that there isn’t as much body roll as he expected which suggests that the suspension on the Hummer is rather hard.
All in all, the large H1 succeeded to finish five laps on the track before the engine started to blow coolant.
