This car does not have any steel parts on its structure and it may be the only car this way ever. It is called the AM-RB 001. As a brainchild of the most successful Formula 1 designer Adrien Newey and Aston Martin design chief Marek Reichman, the 001 stands as the “next” in terms of hypercar design. The main idea behind it all is “lightweight”. How dedicated designers and engineers were is best shown on the design of the propulsion system and the transmission. Believe it or not, the AM-RB 001 will not have a reverse gear. Koenigsegg Regera is the same!
Instead, it will probably use the electric motor which will also be on board. So what about the main engine!?
It turns out an all-new bespoke V12 is being developed and it will be used only for this car. Coupled with the electric motor it should give out more power than propulsion systems we have seen before on cars such as the McLaren P1 or the Porsche 918 Spyder. Actually, the only information about the power we have is the fact that the AM-RB 001 will have 1hp per 1 kilo. That is the same Koenigsegg One:1 has. The difference is that the AM-RB 001 will be lighter. Much lighter. It seems that the weight will be capped at 1000 kilograms. With 1000 hp pushing an aerodynamically perfected body, the AM-RB 001 could be the fastest road-going car ever. We are not talking about straight line speed but about its cornering capabilities and acceleration figures. Some even went that far and suggested its track version could be as fast as the LMP1 racer and that is incredible, to say the least.
Aston Martin and Red Bull will produce 99 units with 24 more being track ready versions. First deliveries will kick off in 2018.
