The Cannonball Run! The name says it all really. It is the ultimate testament to the American trash movie heritage, but whether you accept its cultural flop or not, this thing was awesome and it is awesome even at this point. It started all the hype about long illegal races later made popular by the Gumball 300. However, at its inception, the Cannonball Run was made in order to present what has been done in the Seventies in the illegal race called the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea. The participants had only one goal, to reach the LA Coast faster than others. The starting point was in New York, so the race was rather long. The guys and gals participating could use whatever vehicle they wanted. They could use any road and all means that could help them reach the LA Coast.
We bring you an intro for the Cannonball Run movie which features a beautiful, incredible and aggressive Lamborghini Countach with a rather unusual front spoiler. Lamborghini really did sell it like this back in the days and this particular one was the fastest Countach of them all. Developing more than 450 HP, the Countach could achieve almost 186 mph and it could reach 60 in less than 5 seconds. Back in the day, these figures could only be achieved by supercars. The Cannonball Run is definitely a movie in which Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett and Roger Moore made their case. It grossed more than 70 million US dollars making it highly successful and it definitely popularised illegal cross country racing.
