This is a big one. German super SUVs are finally in a head-to-head battle trying to totally disintegrate one another. The BMW X6 M goes against the newest of them all – the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe. Race of the titans will show us that more power does not always translate to more speed. These racing inspired machines are basically heavyweights of the car world and both of them are powered by the latest twin turbocharged units capable of atrocities soon to be illegal. Not only do they have a footprint of an elephant, but every single thing about them is an overkill. For example, the wheel size for the BMW X6 M is 285/35R21. The Merc uses even bigger 285/40R22 wheels. Of course, power is huge – around 580hp for both, although the Benz has 10 more hp to haul it around.
10hp could be a crucial difference, but the Mercedes-AMG is a bit heavier and does not feature all the advanced go-faster tech as the BMW. All the extra gear on the Merc does cripple it a bit, so it cannot really hold a candle in a drag race against the monstrosity from Munich.
Both cars start off fast, but the BMW soon takes the lead. Yet, much more interesting is the time these monsters clocked. The BMW finished a quarter of a mile in 12,24 seconds with the AMG lagging 0,3 seconds. This kind of performance is far, far from anything any other similarly sized cars can achieve. True, the Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged can be furiously fast, but we reckon – not this fast.
