Despite the Model 3 taking the crown of the most famous Tesla of the month of April this year, the old, now redesigned, Model S is still rocking hard. After some improvements Tesla Motors gave the Model S, the California-based company is doing the world a favour by offering even more amazing gizmos for the car. The latest new addition for the Model S is a wireless charger which transfers the power to batteries via an induction process. While the tech behind this is not that incredible or sci-fi, the charger, and all the rigs actually cost $3.290 which is not a small amount of money. For this kind of money, buyers will get full service – shipping, a new module with the installation on the car and a whole new module to install on the parking slot. Tesla Motors’ engineers and service technicians will handle it all.
New hardware will increase the car weight a bit – by 35 pounds which is not all that bad considering that every Tesla Model S has more than enough power to cope with it. The system is called Plugless and it is only available for the Tesla Model S cars, but the statement made by the company is clear – they will make it available for every car they produce – “Our engineers are hard at work to bring Plugless to all Tesla models,” Richmond, Virginia-based company has commented. As for the hardware and the service, the Plugless comes with a 3-year warranty and a 45-day Any Reason Return Period. More importantly, overnight wireless recharging will amp up the battery for a 200-mile trip. This is more than enough for the days worth of car use – researchers found out that majority of drivers actually use the car less than 100 miles a day.
