Tesla revealed their car for the masses (much cheaper than this insane Model X). It is called the Model 3, it looks like a shortened Model S and it looks good enough to enchant drivers all over the world. Actually, it promises so much goodness, that only 48 hours after its reveal, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, revealed that the buyers ordered 276.000 units of the Model 3. As of now, the number probably topped 300.000.
So, what is so good about the car that so many people want to purchase and drive it!?
Tesla Model 3 is a $35.000 car with an electric engine, batteries in the floor, aerodynamic looks with a drag coefficient of only 0,21 cD and enough power to get to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. Neat. We do not know much about the car, but we do know its centrally located display in the cabin will be provided by LG. Space inside provides space for five adults and we know it will remain simple and elegant; however, the car will receive a new steering wheel.
The scarce details revealed by Elon Musk include info about a 215-mile range (for the least expensive version), AWD dual motor option, bigger batteries and some options on the inside. Faux leather will also be an option.
Now, the car obviously is not as large as the Model S or the Model X but it shares a fairly decent amount of details with them. It even looks like a baby Model S despite the duck looking grilles front end. The real question is will Musk manage to ramp up the production to achieve such a steep demand for the car. It may well be possible for Tesla to finish the Gigafactory faster than before. If nothing, they have received around 300 million dollars only in pre-orders. That is sick.
