The third episode in the series about the Focus RS – Rebirth of an Icon tells the story about putting the newest Ford Focus RS on the road. Here, a team of 30 engineers did a run with the camouflaged Ford Focus RS cars from the top of the Rockies in Denver Colorado to the desert plains of Arizona. Driving the RS through the harshest of terrains, the team had a clear input about car behavior in different situations. The Ford team tested the car at high altitudes, in low temperatures, in dense and rare air and in different weather conditions. The data they gathered with the 1000 mile drive was sufficient to tune up the car right up to the specifications.
Interestingly enough, Ford brought along some competitive cars and several prototypes of the Focus RS to test them all in the same conditions and to improve their own cars above the levels of their competitors. It is quite entertaining to go into the details about car development because, right here, we can almost connect with the engineers who did all they had to in order to create a vehicle which excels. Debriefing at the end of every day was a place for brainstorming. The engineers gave a bunch of ideas on how to improve the car and make it even better in terms of dynamics and speed. According to the latest reports, they have done such a magnificent job that all the dealers are struggling to get the Focus RS. Pre-orders are pages long and the price is currently going up.
