The SEMA Motor show is just round the corner. Among some of the best car manufacturers exhibiting their tuned novelties one really stands out. Believe it or not its a Scion with its three new concept cars that will capture the essence of the tuning scene. All of them have been tuned by independent custom builders chosen by Scion. However, Scion had one more thing going in the tune community for this SEMA Motor show. With the money cap at $15.000, Scion challenged tuners to modify the RWD FR-S the best they could and to exhibit it on the SEMA motor show. It is clear what they wanted to do – to make the FR-S the favourite tuner car and it seems they’ve done just that. It is rather impressive what American tuners can do for $15k.
Three most successful tuners will exhibit their cars with Scion revealing first the one tuned by the Super Street. The car received a wider body, 18-inch wheels, upgraded Willow brakes, KW coilover suspension and few more parts enhancing its driving characteristics. More impressively, the Super Sport succeeded to upgrade the interior with a new steering wheel, sound system, roll cage and other. It is rather impressive what can be done with just $15k. With flashy yellow color, upgraded suspension and improved engine, this FR-S seems like it is ready for the track and not for the street.
On the other hand, Speedhunter really made a track car. Removing the interior isolation, seats and basically any other unnecessary parts lightened the FR-S. However, rollcage, quick release steering, bucket seats and four point harness clearly show what this FR-S is all about. Besides upgrading the interior, Speedhunter improved suspension and upped the power of the two liter engine by installing a Cosworth supercharger.
Finally, the third FR-S, tuned by GT Channel, is more to the ground than the previous two. It looks aggressive and it has a sporty stance, but it seems that this kind of tuning is the closest to the wide public than any other. It features a full new body kit, TDR headlights, Recaro seats and KW suspension kit. With a supercharger this FR-S easely outperforms the stock one.
All in all, Scion tried to make the ultimate tuner car with the new gen of the FR-S. These tuning kits clearly demonstrate that a lot can be achieved with just $15k. The FR-S might possibly be the best Fast and Furious vehicle there is.
