Roborace should be a racing series of self-driving cars. Ok, not cars, but self-driving racing machines designed to run the track, overtake, accelerate, assess the situation and act logically. The series should be a part of opening rounds of the Formula E championship, giving the spectators a chance to see first hand how self-driving cars improve and develop over time. The first self-driving race car we saw was a Devbot designed by Daniel Simon. It uses some Formula E components and a lot of actuators, computing power and sensors trying to be as autonomous as it gets.
For now, the teams did not have much luck in designing all the right software for the racing and then, when they finally rigged it all up for work, something went wrong with the batteries. The team decided to forgo the Hong Kong race inauguration before they make sure everything works well.
Roborace YouTube channel is a place where you should learn a lot about this peculiar racing series which should kick off shortly. Here, the team is actually showing behind the scenes footage revealing their problems with batteries. It seems we may have a whole series linked with the Roborace team and their efforts to race the car as up until this point they have revealed two episodes of the series called Inside Roborace.
If the project fails even before it starts, it will be quite a blow to the whole autonomous car industry. Two episodes introduce us to the first and the second racer the team has built. Of course, these are electric cars and may be the beginning of something wonderful – the biggest transportation revolution since Benz invented the car.
