Nissan has set a new world record for the fastest drift ever attempted. They used a Nissan GT-R Nismo for a stunt and they made it possible at the Fujairah International Airport, UAE. Of course, to drift so much and so fast with the Nissan GT-R, Nismo had to do some rather amazing modifications to their pride and joy. The result is a rear wheel drive Nissan GT-R Nismo with the engine power increased to 1.380hp. Trying to spruce up the 2016 Nissan GT-R, Nismo partnered with the GReddy Trust which probably provided them with some nicer and bigger turbochargers.
Before heading to make an awesome drift record, Nissan hired the famous drifter Kawabata to test out the machine. After weeks of testing, the car was prepped for the ultimate attempt and the end results you can see in this video are incredible and scary at the same time. If you are wondering why on earth does this thing need so much power – like one megawatt of it, you may guess that pushing the car going sideways at speeds of more than 186 mph is power consuming. This Nissan GT-R went all mad at the airport hitting a speed of 189.49 miles per hour (304.96 kilometers per hour) while drifting sideways at a 30-degree angle.
Masato Kawabata was behind the wheel this time as well. He broke the record set by Jakub Przygoński of Poland. He did not break his record – he crushed it. Jakub drove sideways at 218 kph (135 mph). Kawabata and Nissan did it at 189.49mph.
