The Renault Sport RS 01 race car is probably the most amazing sports car Renault Sport ever produced. It has some features sourced directly from the Nissan GT-R – like the engine, but the car is a whole new design with a mid-engine layout, sick low stance, an extremely low center of gravity and unmatched aerodynamic features. Obviously, with its carbon fiber monocoque chassis, extremely lightweight construction and 500hp, this is a seriously fast car.
Now, Renault wanted to show it off a bit and they released a rather amusing commercial showing the Renault RS 01 acting as a police car with a professional racing driver behind the wheel. Here, the massively powerful machine storms through the highway traffic (full of Renault cars) chasing the outlawed superbike rider. And you know what, the superbike could not lose the RS 01.
OK, all this is just commercial fun, but the RS 01 is not a funny car. It is a sinister supercar-like machine with enough potential to shatter race tracks all over the world. Even one small outtake from this short movie proves it. The driver behind the wheel is actually the former World Rally Championship driver Jean Ragnotti. Yes, champions drive this car.
Now, Renault won’t reveal anything like this anytime soon, but they are about to reveal the first Alpine car in February. It will not be as fast as the RS 01, but it will be seriously capable with alleged 250hp and 300hp engines. Small Porsches, Alfas, and many other will have a proper counterpart.
