The Mazda RX 8 is a proper 4 door sports car and known for its unique engine and “suicide doors”. The rear doors open the opposite way of the front doors allowing passengers to have easy access to the back seats. Back seats have ample leg room and can fit adults without feeling cramped or confined. The heart of the RX8 is also unique, it uses a rotary engine which is commonly referred to as the “Wankel” engine. This uses a triangular rotor that rotate in a single course as compared to the common engine which uses pistons that moves up and down. The 1.3 liter rotary engine allows the RX8 to rev up with ease and shift smoothly without the feel of drag. The RX8 is also praised for its body style because of its originality, innovativeness and beauty.
Mazda set a few drawbacks of using a rotary engine. The RX8 can only produce low amount of torque and the engine is incredibly fuel thirsty, fuel consumption from the RX8 can be compared to a full sized SUV. The authority produced by the RX8 is an adequate 212 bhp under a six speed automatic transmission while 232bhp can be received on a six speed manual. The problem lies on its torque, whatever the transmission be, it only produces a shameful 152 lb ft of torque. The Mazda RX8 though is not a pure disappointment. It is ranked one of the most affordable sports car, it is a livable car for day to day driving, excellent in ride comfort and has brilliant handling.
