Mazda MX-5 was just awarded the World Car of The Year Award and we like it a lot. It is small, humble, proud, full of life, fun and actually not bad looking. Now, we finally got what everyone wanted in the first place – a Mazda MX-5 Miata with a hard top. It is a retractable hardtop, true, but it is an engineering masterpiece that makes the MX-5 a whole lot of fun and awesome. The full name of the car is the 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF with RF standing for Retractable Fastback.
The roof is actually automated. It can be operated at a touch of a button, but this feature works only up to a speed of 6 mph, which is rather slow, isn’t it? On the plus side, you want everyone to see the roof dance and going slowly is the only way to ensure that.
The car was revealed at the New York Auto Show and was one of the biggest surprises.
As ever, this car is available with the 1.5 L naturally aspirated engine, and for those who want a bit more a two-liter engine is also in the game. Although neither of them is as powerful as they could be, the engines are powerful enough to give the super sexy small car a rather nice performance. The 155hp two-liter engine is the best bet really. Coupled with manual transmission and an enthusiastic driver, the small, nimble, light and happy Mazda with an angry face can provide the ultimate fun and it will do it with style.
