So what are we seeing here!? An Audi RS7 racing a Ferrari 458 Italia? Is this race plausible? We ask the question because these two cannot be more different. The Audi is a five-seat five-door coupe with the engine up front, gearbox in the middle with an all wheel drive setup called Quattro. The Ferrari, on the other hand, is a surgically precise machine with two seats, carbon fiber this and that, mid-engine layout, rear wheel drive and active aerodynamics. What is awesome about this particular race is the fact that it can actually happen. The Audi made fascinating progress crafting their large cars in the RennSport Division and the RS7 with a 560hp engine and all smart tech underneath is easily powerful enough and fast enough to stack up against the best cars of today.
OK, Ferrari is the winner here, but not by a large margin. Audi did lose but it put up a better fight than the Jaguar F-Type R against the less powerful Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
We wonder what would happen if the guys from GT Board had a 2017 Audi RS7 Performance. That one comes with an improved engine developing whopping 605 hp, slightly reworked chassis, suspension, transmission and launch control system. With more power and tiny improvements on other fronts, the RS7 Performance would have a chance to fight a fight of its life with one of the best cars the world has ever seen -the 458 Italia.
After all, it all comes to the Weight/power ratio. The Audi is going around with 1 hp pushing 3.9 kilograms, while the Ferrari has far better 2.9 kilos per one hp.
