Trying to demonstrate the world their high-end features, Land Rover just released a rather nice video depicting the newest technology they are reportedly developing. It really is what it says – a remote control for a car and we aren’t talking about the RC car. Showing the tech in this rather entertaining video, Land Rover is presenting us that they’ve created something James Bond had 18 years ago. If you remember Pierce Brosnan in the BMW 7 series (the E38) from the movie Tomorrow Never Dies, then you know he had the tech enabling him to steer the car remotely. Now, the time has come to show the world just what is possible and after the new BMW 7 series (which has a sort-of remote control), the new Range Rover comes equipped with the real deal. The car in question has all the actuators needed for steering the wheels, for acceleration and for braking. And yes, everything can be controlled via a smartphone app. If you question why would anyone need this than the video will give you a great answer. If you are doing off-road and you don’t want to scratch the paint of the expensive Range Rover than the best way is to steer the car from the outside making sure you always hit the best possible driving line.
We guess that this is not extremely hard to make for the experimental purposes. However, making it work in the real world will be a tough challenge.
