New Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 and the second generation of the Audi R8 V10 plus are much the same cars. Both of them have a mid-engine layout, four wheel drive, low center of gravity and almost the same footprint. What is more, the engines inside are also the same – 5.2 L naturally aspirated V10 produces 610 hp and it is one of the last pure naturally aspirated engines purists crave for. The result are two rather interesting vehicles – with the Audi R8 more or less, being a cheaper version of the Lambo.
So what happens when you put both of them in a drag race one against the other. Team from Topgear Polska was curious and the results are far more interesting than expected. Both cars have an all wheel drive and a nice launch control system, but there are some changes to the gearbox setup, suspension setup and aerodynamics. However, not much of this would matter too much on a straight line where only the pure force of the V10 and the aerodynamics could give an edge to each of them.
After the race, the team did not have any conclusions only because both the Lambo and the Audi ended the race at much the same time. OK, many factors can play a major role here – like drivers’ reactions, gear change time and even a wiff of wind, so repeating the race would be a nice way to have more conclusive results.
Nevertheless, having two similar cars going so close in a drag race is simply astonishing. The precision of the machines of today is simply mind blowing.
