When Volkswagen introduced their latest superwagon – the Golf R Variant not much of us thought that there will be any better similarly priced (or even cheaper) car in the segment that could tackle it. However, Volkswagen Group made it interesting this time with the revealing of the newest and baddest Seat wagon of all times. This is car will only be enjoyed by the Europeans and it is a Seat Leon ST Cupra.
With a rather nice, but elegantly sculpted sporty body kit, larger tires (on 18 inch or 19 tires) and insanely cool stance, the newest Seat wagon is something like a dream car for young fathers and mothers. It is a connection between the youth and between the future and, thanks to a much lesser price in comparison with the mighty Golf R, it just might be the best solution for speed loving freaks that want to attend some family business.
The two liter turbocharged unit underneath the bonnet can spruce up 265 HP (or 180 HP in the most powerful Cupra 280 version) which is enough for a rather nice acceleration of 6,1 second to 62 mph (with a DSG transmission). This is by no means a number out of this world, but it is enough to show that wagons do not have to be boring at all.
Straight line speed is one thing, but what when it comes to cornering? Is this ungainly Seat good enough to fight that added rear weight off? It seems that it is. With the front differential lock, adaptive chassis and sport tuned steering, the Leon ST Cupra (and Cupra 280) is capable of some formidable driving performance which is on par with the best hot hatches in the world.
