BMW has some serious SUVs in their arsenal. X1, X3, X4, X5, and X6 are all incredibly angry and successful, so seeing any two of these in a drag racing fight is quite a sight. Now, we have two badass machines eyeing each other on the drag racing track – the X4 M40i and the mighty X5M. These two are SUVs from different segments, have some angry Motorsport tuned and created features and more importantly, both are bursting with power.
The lesser X4 M40i is not as mad as the X5M, but it has more than enough grunt to tackle its big brother – all wheel drive, eight-speed automatic from ZF and three-liter TwinPower Turbocharged engine – yes, it is a mighty machine. In fact, it is almost as powerful as the M2. The engine for this one develops a rather healthy dose of power – 360 hp and 342 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough to give the X4 a sports car performance.
True, the car it is fighting against is far more sinister – powered by a 4.4-liter V8 with Twin Power Turbo technology, the X5M disposes of with 575hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. That really is a hell of a lot of power, but then again, the X5 M is around 1000 lbs heavier than the X4M40i and that is by no means insignificant.
Now, the race did not go unexpectedly. The X5M did win, but not by much. You will be surprised to see the smaller, lighter and less powerful X4 M40i keeping a good track at the start and then losing only after high mph is reached. The M40i is definitely an underdog here, but it fought remarkably well. See for yourself how these mighty machines accelerated to 102 mph (the X4 M40i) and 115 mph (the X5M) on the drag racing track – the ATCO DRAGWAY.
