If you ever wanted to know the real difference between all-season and winter tires, now is your chance. Jalopnik had a chance to test Goodyear all season tires and Goodyear Blizzak winter tires in a unique way. Two tricycles with car tires – one with all season tires and other on winter tires were set up on the icy surface of the hockey terrain.
OK, these are not scientific methods of testing out tires, but this time, you will be able to see just how grippy winter tires are on their own turf. Right at the start, the tricycle with all season tires had problems due to excessive slippage. On the other hand, the Blizzaks went off the line without any problems. The cornering was easier, braking as well, which goes to prove that winter tires are a must have feature during winter times.
The main reason for such a radical difference is actually a combination of a few features. Apart from the radically different design of the tires, the winter tires have a radically altered material mixture which allows them to stick to ice or snow and have somewhat enhanced grip features in cold weather.
Goodyear Blizzaks are especially interesting due to their affordability and rational price. Now, if the average winter tires can have such a great advantage over all season tires, just imagine what the most advanced high-end winter tires can do.
