You know that the Tesla Model S P85D with its engines and incredibly powerful batteries is the fastest accelerating saloon of all times. However, in Germany, the team Green Team Formula Students created a magnificent vehicle with four wheel drive, low weight and a 136 HP engine. Although this doesn’t sound like much, the previous iteration of this car prove to be the fastest accelerating EV vehicle to 62 mph.
This time the sprint was made on a better day with only a slight modification to the car. With a great start, full batteries, exceptional grip and low weight, the team cloaked the time of 1.779 seconds to 62 mph. That is something only the best petrol powered cars of today can do. Not all of them of course. Only those little four wheel drive monsters used on special Rally Cross X Games are capable of doing so. Actually, this thing might even be faster to 62 mph than those cars.
The whole car has a total weight of 350 lbs and the battery pack has a 6.62-kWh of capacity which means that the car has a power to weight ratio of 1.6 kg/kW. That is more than the Bugatti Veyron.
Interestingly, the record is still unofficial, but the Guinness World Record guys were there and they will confirm it.
