This is sort of creepy and astonishing at the same time. An auto paparazzi at the Nurburgring caught Audi testing its newest toy on the Green Hell. Everything seems to be cool, but you can’t actually hear any engine noise whatsoever. The car tested on the ‘Ring is the 2016 Audi R8 e-tron. Some of you might even notice that it wears the body of the last generation Audi R8, but believe us, everything underneath is new technology that will be actually available for purchase next year.
As the R8 e-tron is basically an electric car and as you know electric motors don’t actually produce any sound, here you can only hear the tires squealing under hard pressure when cornering and accelerating. You can love it or hate it, but it is highly possible that the car races of tomorrow will become exactly like this – silent cars trying to outdo each other before they lose all the juice from the batteries.
The new R8 E-tron should have an electric motor developing 469 HP. With advanced batteries inside and some clever engineering, the car will be able to travel 280 miles before depleting the batteries. If Audi succeed to make it like that than this will probably be the best electric car, standing next to the Tesla Model S.
All in all, you have an idea what future racing might look like and quite frankly, we’d like to hear something else instead of tires squealing.
