Half-mile trap speed racing became quite a huge deal in the US. Tuned machines from Underground Racing and Alpha performance do rule the competition, but in this case, we are dealing with an almost stock Porsche 911 991.2 Turbo S and all stock Audi R8 V10 Plus. So, no insanely large turbochargers and superchargers here – just the impressive factory stuff.
The thing is that the 580hp Porsche 911 Turbo S did receive a soft ECU update releasing additional 20hp. On the other hand, the Audi R8 with its 5.2 liter V10 already has the power of insane 610 hp. Both cars are AWD, but the Porsche has a rear based engine instead of a mid-mounted machine as in the Audi R8.
While the race did not clock the time the cars needed to cross the half-mile marker, it did clock their speed. And there, the Porsche 911 Turbo S had an advantage. The driver in it used the Launch Control system, while the driver of the Audi R8 V10 Plus did not. Yes, Audi has the tech, but for some unknown reason, the driver did not use it in this instance.
While these cars are super fast and insanely capable on the straights, the fact is that their natural habitat should be the racing track. Both developed on the Nurburgring, they have enough “experience” to tackle any track in the world and when they do not many cars can match up. On the other hand, that 5.2liter V10 in Audi is known to produce insane amounts of power with some proper trickery. In fact, Underground Racing made the same engine produce more than 2.300hp. Is that sick or what!? No wonder such a monster would slash the Half-Mile finish line with 230+mph trap speed. But these aren’t slow either. Check the video and enjoy.
