US Muscle cars are perfect for one thing – going from zero to a lot. Now, the Americans simply could not leave them stock and that created a whole subculture of car tuning with muscle cars becoming ultimate dragsters capable of things no other car in the world can accomplish. If you still do not know what, picture this. The engines in proper muscle cars are so large they can be dialed up to some insane levels. In the most extreme cases, each cylinder in the engine can produce around 1000hp (something like this). As virtually all of them are V8s, you can do the math. True, this kind of power outputs are created only for special dragsters, but even in the lower classes the output of the engine can be next to incredible.
Take for example this road going and road worthy AMC Javelin. Whether you like it or not, this monster of a car is capable of trashing almost anything rolling down the road. Its V8 is helped by twin 88mm Precision turbos and all sort of mods which up the power to the 2.500hp level. That is a lot of power even for a plane and the car had to get enormous tires to channel all that intensity down to the asphalt. When it does just that great things happen. A quarter of a mile is cracked in 6.something seconds at speeds above 200 mph. Not impressed!? Well, you should be, mainly because this thing is way faster than anything that came out of any car factory. This is the muscle.
